I have two Rottweilers and I have never have to bribe them to come back or go to where I want them to go. I got them as puppy, and the reason they come back to me and do what I tell them is because I build a very closed trust and they know that if they go too far away just me calling them back is enough for them to know that is time to follow the leader. These dogs are great dogs in the right hands otherwise they will become a nightmare.

You have any affordable courses for the ordinary American? You know the one who cant even afford to own a home in 2026. That American.

What a life! Working with dogs everyday!
This is the secret to a happy life. When you do what you love, for your job, you never 'work' a day in your life!

I truly believe that when teaching a recall command, it should be done using a CLU — a Clear, Loud, and Unique signal. Words simply don’t travel that far. Additionally, words are used in various situations, and the human voice conveys different emotional tones.

I trained every dog I worked with to recall, successfully bringing them back during off-leash walks across 175 acres of open forest. The question was never “how far can they go?” but always “will they come back?”

The signal should travel as far as they can go.

The alpha of the pack corrects dogs that don't listen by sinking their teeth into them and making them feel pain, at times. We humans don't have the ability to sprint over to a dog that isn't listening and put a bit of correction on them in the form of pain. But a shock collar can do that for us. If the dog doesn't listen, shock them enough so they let out a yelp. Then we know they felt the same level of pain an alpha would give them in a natural setting. Use it VERY sparringly and timing is critical. Wait for them to actively ignore you. Say come or here followed with an audible beep then a shock. They will come running. Never do it more than once every couple days. After 2-3 times they will learn that the beep means to come here instantly. My dogs will stop cold in their tracks in full sprint towards deer or whatever if they hear the beep and come back with lightening speed. No more shocks needed. Invest in 2-3 shocks over a few days and never need to use them again. And don't make them gentle. You need to hear the yelp.

Heck yeah this is what I need. My husband got a new puppy and we’re here third home. She’s the most aloof distracted dog I’ve ever met and I’m finally getting eye contact and teaching crate and place but her recall and walking is absolute S*** so I love your videos and can’t wait to see the results❤ these helped me with my German shepherd so they should help with the golden retriever shepherd mix

Thank you, trained my GSD with your videos primarily. Off leash heel, great recall. I actually trained him to heel when I snap my fingers and truth is, it's so cool 😅 thank you! We're getting another dog soon, excited to train all over!

i never used food with my male Akita or female Rottweiler, though it seems like a no-brainer decision to do so. distraction training only began after seemingly full-control both on-lead and off-lead, only then did various types of distraction training with a 'light line' and then later on a throw-chain (not really needed at that point, but just in case), when off-lead, begin. never used an eCollar, other than with a friend's problem male Boxer and had good results with that.

yes, it took perhaps more time than using food, but i could call both dogs off of rabbits and other dogs with just "aus….kommen" (the "aus" worked well with the male Akita b/c he was personal protection trained by an ex-USAF dog-handler; all forms of obedience training i simply learned from reading and applying diligently Bill Koehler's books….yeah, only a wannabe-trainer here—i think these videos of DIY K-9 are masterful and wish i had them back then).

abundant praise and rubbing the dog up good was the substitute reward for food. i guess looking back food would have been a nice incentive since the dogs were 'worked' before eating.

i viewed every interaction as a training opportunity, which it is. either you are training the dog that you're the Alpha Pack Leader, or the dog is training you. maybe i'm wrong, but i think feedings are a great time to exercise that dominance: none of my dogs ever ate unless they were first put on a 'sitz…platz', with me even eventually leaving the kitchen at times. they could only leave the 'sit….stay' to eat when the 'ok' command was given.

tysvm for making these excellent videos. you are doing a great service. you are simply masterful, imo. again, if anything i put in this comment is wrong or considered poor advice, please it's your channel, by all means call me out and correct it. thank you. you're the PRO, i'm justa wannabe.

I was so confident in my dog's training that I did the dumbest thing ever. She was doing what I told her sitting inside the threshold of an open front door. She began to step out without permission and I corrected her, she then stepped back and sat (good)! Then I gave her the "break" command believing she would step out and sit next to where I was standing. Nope, I was so wrong she took off and did NOT recall!! She was GONE! She ran across two streets into the city's yard that was thankfully enclosed where my husband was able to command her down. It all happened so fast and it taught me a huge lesson. I am not so cocky about her training anymore. I continue to train her and am getting her an E collar. Thank you for your videos!

As one of the few millenials that hate technology, this is one of the biggest perks. Your videos are a wealth of information. I've had mainly rescue apbt and apbt mixes my whole adult life (small dogs as a child), and now I'm waiting on transport to arrive tomorrow with my female presa pup. The goal is to have her be my constant by-my-side companion with zero obedience hesitation, then once old enough get her into protection training so i can ensure she's the perfect family guardian for my kids. Your videos help a ton and I'll be taking notes and pairing them alongside my 86 page presa training manual i had made for her. So thank you in advance for the part you play in me raising this pup 🫡
