Thank you for watching New Puppy Training – Helpful Reality Tips For First Time Dog Owners. Are you a first-time puppy owner or have you had dogs in the past?
so my puppy was just born. i wont get him for a few weeks , but i am preparing as best as possible.
i have a question. i have a two story home , upstairs is carpeted and also where my office is. I work from home. it dawned on me , i dont want leave the puppy downstairs all day. I was considering having him in my office (carpet area) with me.
any ideas on how that could be a reality? i was considering buying waterproof blankets to put down on my office floor (maybe?)
Someone help meeee i adopted a puppy 3 days back and it whines alot in night tbh it hears like screaming and my mom is telling me to give awayy…pls help meeee
The vet bills… I didn’t think of that. Picking up puppy tomorrow and honestly I’ve got the regrets and blues already. There’s so many rules w training and discipline. I’m fearful I’ll do those wrong & the dog will revolt. You made a very good point to me abt removing the rugs where he’ll be and I have 2 nice red wood chairs in the room where he’ll be gated into. I knew they chewed, but hearing if they’re mad or frustrated, they will chew my furniture? It’s going to be fine right?
I've been thinking about getting a pup, but I work pretty far away, so I'm gonna wait until I work closer to home. When I get my dog I decided I'm gonna come home on all of my breaks so I can spend some time with him during my shifts. I also started "practicing" by going on a walk every morning, afternoon, and night. I already found a doggy day care for when I work long hours, and I found a dog sitter who does drop in visits for when I need some help. I have more toys for him than I ever had for myself in my life. I have all the hygiene items, and I found a groomer for when I need some professional intervention, but most grooming will be done by me. I've put hours of research into what I should be feeding a dog and how to keep him as healthy as I can, and I found a good brand of grain free kibble (I think). I've scoured every corner of the internet to gather all the information I could possibly need, but I'm still so worried I'll end up being a bad doggie dad. I don't really have a point in this, I just wanted to voice my anxiety yk. He's going to be a working dog, so I have an hour a day worked into my schedule for training, 20m in the morning, 20m after work, 20m at night. I really hope I'm able to give my puppy the best life he could imagine. I have 3 dog parks near me that I've checked out, and I've looked into the hiking trails around me so that I can exercise him properly, too. It's gonna be great, I hope.
Just curious why don’t you recommend that puppies sleep with their human? My 12 week old black lab mix sleeps with me every night. She sleeps through the night for the most part but usually wakes me up early in the morning to go potty. I don’t mind that, I’d rather she wake me up and take her out than have to pick up poop or pee in the house/crate.
Before you decide to own a Dog learn about Dog behaviour so that when you come across other Dogs you do not get in a panic and start smothering your Dog and start blaming and accusing other Dog owners of having a dangerous Dog just because they start barking you people are making Dog walking a fing nightmare you idiots.
Helpful tip: puppies need naps. Schedule them into their day. I either do chores or errands or get some sleep during this time. Take care of yourself l
Reality check, check, and check ✅. Raising a 9-week old puppy here. Thanks Michelle for this video. It’s very comforting and reassuring to know that everything I’m experiencing right now with my furry friend is normal and that it will get better 😊. Thanks for all the tips and tricks!
Your videos are always helpful and well explained 👏! I new about pups flying restrictions regarding weather, but didn't know about short nosed puppies.
Do you recommend a sling carrier to transport dog outside when you live in an elevator building? Just trying to limit chance of accidents on the way out.
Great content!! I have a 12 week old Border Collie and found your overview here spot-on! House training has been super frustrating; I feel like he’s getting worse. We’ll take him out to his spots, hang out for several minutes, then walk him, then back to his spot, come inside and 5-10 minutes later he goes on our floor!
What a great video and channel. You have helped me so much with little Luna. She’s doing great with the training but we have a lot of work to do when it comes to my food and begging and jumping on it. Any suggestions?
I have a suggestion if thats ok. Could you have a discussion about the do's & dont's regarding the fact that puppie's bones havent fused together yet? I've seen a few posts and pics about not letting them jump, go up or down stairs, too much walking, running, vigourous play etc. People have different opinions (especially how long we do the dont's for) and it would be great to get some professional advice on it. Thanks ☺
Am getting a puppy hopefully in 3 months. She'll be my 3rd dog but it's been 14yrs since I've had a puppy so am re-educating myself. I'm REALLY glad i found you. I've watched and learnt so much from you. Thank you!
Thanks, Michelle. Gotta say, your vet bills in the US are crazy-expensive! One mercy I'm grateful for here in the UK. Just had our Mini Schnauzer puppy now for 2 weeks; no problems with sleeping, accidents in the house are always my fault for not getting there quick enough. That I can cope with. But he's a biter!! Oh, boy, is he ever! We're his tug-toys for sure, and nothing, but nothing will distract him! Any advice on that? Pleeease? 🐶😧
My puppy doesn't like going out to the toilet in the rain. One of the accidents she had was because she saw it raining so she turned back into the house and peed inside. I stand outside with her every time in all weather types and when its raining now I carry her outside and close the door so she has no choice but to go outside. I even stay out with her.
Thank you for all your help. We got our two pups back in September they are two weeks apart and are now going to be 7mo Feb. What a difference they are about 85 percent potty trained and much calmer.
I already have the Puppy. I am having mostly no problems with her since I brought her home a month ago. My only frustration is trying to get her to walk on the lead. Most of the walk she just wants to sit on her ass.
I had her two days and she was already begging to go out to the toilet. In the past month I've had a total of eight accidents in the house and she doesn't chew on anything she shouldn't hew on so far. Also I'm using one of those fold out playpens you don't like and it works out perfectly so far. She only had two accidents In it so far. Also she only asks to go out to the toilet every three to four hours. Most of the time she sits at 5he door or baby crate and cries to ask to go out.
Shes had all her vaccinations too. And yes between buying everything for her and vaccinations its cost me over €1,200 so far.
She isn't my first dog though so I'm able to understand most of her body language. But as I said I'm having trouble walking her on the lead.

Reality 1: Fine by me I don’t sleep much anyway.
"Wow, such a heartwarming moment at [9:01]! Your videos always brighten my day. 🐾 Keep up the great work!"
I'm already losing sleep watching pet prep videos, lol. 0:53 But maybe I'm sleeping more than I will be with a new pet.

First time puppy owner.
We had dogs growing up. But I haven't been around a puppy in a VERY long time.
