I got a 10 month old GSD from a rescue last week, he is lovely dog, very reactive to other dogs, eats cow poo, lovely with people, leave it is our training this week!!
My dad was the dog trainer and leader. Sadly he's passed on so I'm here learning all I can. You're a good teacher, man! We're getting there! Think I might have a neurotic Czech Shepherd 😱
My dog 6 months mad as a hatter sometimes zooms growls barks pulls the lead tries to take it with her teeth and lies or pulls back to get her way . I have had slow improvements but can't seem to stop her jumping up can be dangerous she's getting big and strong. Latest thing that seems to work to stop barking growling nibbling with her teeth nibbling my shoes and cardigans when I am wearing them is open kitchen door say bad force her in close door she wails I say quiet and you can come in she goes quiet open the door say bed lie down she does and I say good girl then she usually goes to sleep. But I feel it's a battle of wills. Wish I was better at training her.
I know I'm 2 years late for this video but my malanois x Labrador is turning 6 months soon and she's started to not listen already so I'm glad this is on here when it's needed ❤
I like your video's but I dont think its practical in 'every day' situations to have to carry around a Treat pouch and keeping my dog Hungry to make them behave …. Why don't you just 'Pay' her by 'Praise-love' …?!?
I love my dog but I'm afraid I'm not the best doggy Daddy I could be as far as teaching him things and making sure that he's obedient don't get me wrong Billy rubs and treats and kisses he is showered with every day and night but I do feel like there's so much potential in him that I haven't really tapped into yet he's a Yorkie and boy the energy my little guy has is just phenomenal
The biggest mistake is when people only get a dog with the argument: ‘ I like dogs and it is nice to have a dog for my own needs’ without thinking about the needs for their dog.
My pup was great with commands, especially leave. Then he turned 8 months, and I might as well be speaking Swahili. So frustrating. Back to square one.
The leave it command allowed us to trim our dog's toenails when nothing else worked. We would put a single piece of cereal on the floor and tell him to leave it, and he would laser focus on that and completely ignore us picking up his paws and trimming his nails. It was incredible.
Hi Will, we have a Romanian rescue male 14 months old, he is still ‘intact’ and shows no signs of aggression – but I’m concerned he might be a target for other dogs who are. I wondered what you think re neutering.
Love your series! I just adopted a rescue dog that has extreme fear of the dark, is that something that can be trained out? I live in Canada and our winters are basically 10 hours of daylight which makes it very difficult to get the amount of exersize she needs with my work schedule. Also do you have a series for rescue dogs? I see many videos on puppies, my puppy is already like 2 haha Thank in advance!
I need advice. What that means : I am calling off my dog to me, he starts coming and in the middle of that, he changes his mind and start going back and starts running cycle around me… he knows what that means come to me 🤷🏻♂️ is that no respect ?
Mr Allerton, is it effective to wizzle to a dog to redirect while being reactive towards leashless dogs on the street? I'm in Mexico lots of street dogs. Some are friendly and some aren't.
For me the biggest problem with dog training today is so called trainers trying to charge ridiculous money without delivering results! I think trainers should be paid for results not talking about results
Do actual grown humans need teaching how to train their own dogs? I see loads of these videos about . I don't know I might just be lucky but my dogs have never been a problem, I've had the smallest and biggest breeds of dogs, I found the Yorkies was the worst but not unmanageable they needed a little more time to learn. I walk for miles daily though so I honestly think my dogs just want to rest when they are at home
My teenage lab has become very cage/ boundary aggressive. She was just growling before when she had food in there or a bone. I made her come out, sit and lie down in submission, removed the item, and she was fine. Last night she got a bone and started growling. My husband was in command and thought it was because our other dog was very close, but i don't think it was. She hadn't had a bone all week, and i was standing nearby too. He tried to make her come out and she wouldn't. So i removed the other dog. She was still growling at us and wouldn't come out. So i tapped the back of the cage and she went balistic, full bared teeth and attack mode. I got her out and she was "fine" and submissive. She goes back in, gets the bone, and started growling again. So we go through the process again, but now she's attacking with me just grabbing the door handles. So i get it open, she drops the bone, but she won't come out… even to go outside until my husband stepped in and got down to her level and called her out a few times. I wasnt happy about him stepping in, but there's definitely a difference in how she is treating both of us… and I'm always the one correcting her behavior while he's the one who puts her in her cage at night and usually gives her a bone or treat. I think the lack of the bone made her aggressive and guarding. My husband just keeps saying she doesn't do that with him, but i think he's making excuses for it when it does happen to him like when another dog is near. The behavior isn't ok in any circumstance. I took the bone and put it away and she went back into the cage.
So basically you let them grow out of their teenage years and mature and then take credit for training them. “Oh i trained him for about a year” meanwhile he’s an adult now with better judgement naturally
Struggling not to put my 2 year old rescued out bull mix down. He has a viscous reaction to other dogs and any people that come to visit. He’s m almost 70 and much as I love him and he me, I can’t handle this behaviour. I walk him a lot!! I have to use a muzzle and a choke collar because he has bitten before. Can’t relax when there are any other dogs or people around. I think some mixed breeds just have this in their genetics.
I am proud of you for doing what is right for you and your family. Continuing to pray. When I was in the NICU for my little guy, I pumped every 4 hours for 30 minutes. First pump around 6 am and last pump around 11 pm. My goal was 2 hours a day. It worked for me. But I also realize that everybody is different and it might not work for everyone. Just an idea.

No matter the species teenagers are dicks.
My Chocolate Lab does not care about food or treats so getting him to obey is a challenge. What can I use to obtain compliance?

How old is the teenage phase for a dog?
You know what really help I. These training videos… Dogs that need train as opposed to dogs that have been minimally trained.

Very helpful and clearly explained.

How do you teach this to an untrained dog tho
Great piece Will! We’ve just took on a cockerlier in the teenage phase. Patience and persistence whilst we’re working through these points!
What kind of treats do you use?
Good dogs
