Best Dog Foods for a Dachshund with Arthritis or Joint Pain

Something with a fish base with lots of omega oils, we use Merrick Backcountry Raw Infused. But if they do well on the food you have, adding a supplement may be easier on the stomach than changing the diet. Use your regular diet as the base, and add fresh meats and vegetables to the meal. I also give a glucosamine supplement. Ill include a pic of the one my 18-year-old eats

I would look into Hills Science Diets Special recipes for joints/arthritis. There is also a tablet for joints for dogs that I understand works fairly well. My doxie has bladder stones and doc recommended Science Diets prescription food.

My boy Fenway (18 years and 3 months old) has been sharing my collagen protein shakes for years. He has never had any joint, spine, hip, or other issues. He still jumps around and likes to play … just a bit more slowly.

I have to cook chicken (with doggie vitamins and Wuffies for arthritis). She’ll eat commercial senior pet food till I stick up on it, then won’t eat it!!!

My Doxie was slowing down at 12 years old. I started feeding her Natural Balance vegan dry and canned food and switched her treats to be raw baby carrots. It wasn’t long before she got the zoomies again. Now she is 15 yo and loves going on walks and playing with my sons.

Mine was on that expensive hills prescription j/d and it was awful. She was always hungry and was fighting with the other dogs for their food.

I used Royal Canin for Doxies, it had Glucosamine and Chondroitin

Hill’s Science Diet. I’m sure they have a brand that’s good for arthritis and if not get CBD oil and give them drops of that it helps arthritis or glucosamine for dogs. Hills and glucosamine and CBD are all expensive but it’s worth it for your animal.

You will not be disappointed with the Zignature salmon and trout. It’s high in omega-3’s. My Dachshund is also on a vet-recommended omega-3 liquid and Galliprant. He is doing awesome!

Like people, they are all different. I have a 13 yr old & 15.5 yr old, both 10 lbs. The older one has arthritis and takes a .01 drop of CBD oil every 4 days which relieved the arthritic discomfort & they are fed Purina Pro Plan Sensitive stomach, 1/2 ice cube of pure pumpkin and a few blueberries daily. They are both active dogs, shiny coats, good condition and ‘ready when you are’ attitudes.

Raw beef and chicken (with bone and tripe and organ meats)… been doing it for 15 years. Chicken, we grind ourselves and beef we buy the 2 lb chubs from Blue Ridge Beef. We give our seniors lots of helpful veggies and fruits as well as CBD oil, sardines (in water), Galliprant (prescription) and daily exercise)

No potato or grains as these are inflammatory and cause arthritis to hurt a lot more. Honestly i would go fresh raw. If you don’t want to make your own there are plenty of complete varieties out there.

My boy will only eat Cesar’s soft food. He is 13 now. But no pain yet. Crush up a baby aspirin in his food.

Find one with no wheat or essentially gluten free. Gluten makes swelling worse in the joints, animal and human. Look for some with glucosamine and chondroitin, has to have both as neither will absorb without the other. You could always make their food too using beef, chicken, veggies, etc. tons of recipients out there. Fats are essential for joints too.

Nutrience made from real fish and meat no corn or other fillers. We’ve had our older dogs on this for a few months now and wow what a difference !

The Fresh Pet stuff in the cooler on the dog food aisle, along with a joint supplement for dogs. I have been in the same boat for years and the joint supplements work best with a fresh diet. The fresh foods get the digestive system working properly so the supplements can be absorbed.

Liquid Glucosamine. My pups couldn’t even walk. The liquid absorbs better. And Salmon or fish oil acts as a lubricant. Amazon has these products reasonably priced. My pups couldn’t eat they were in so much pain. After 5 -6 day they were walking pain-free. Many manufacturers make these products. I used it for many years, I think it helped with their teeth, too. It did something with the cartilage. There is a product known as Dasuquin, Vet recommend, it is for teeth and arthritis. It is pricy. Read Reviews it will help you decide. Another thing, another vet recommended surgery. Never had to do surgery. My dogs are pain-free.
