That's the right way to do it. Understand that the dog is accepting your interference or presence by simply asking the dog to follow your instructions. If a dog doesn't follow your instruction or command, the dog hasn't verified you as a friend.
As a kid I once did introductions quickly with the family dog (not even a guardian breed) when my friends came over. I told her that those were my friends. And then I ran off to finish getting ready. I returned to find my terrified friends backed into a corner. Apparently the dog thought I said some more along the lines of here, guard the home and keep these girls contained while I'm gone. Oops. Good thing she wasn't an actual guarding breed.
That's why I worked out my dogs to bark and watch out as long as I'm not at the gate. As soon as I approach the gate, all of them stop, look at me and wait for me to either open the gate or tell them to leave. If I don't approach the gate or go away after talking to them, my dogs will once again watch out for what these people intend to do. That's what a dog shoud do

That is a well trained dog!
Either you take control the situation, or the dog will take control
My Cane is almost a year old and I’ve been socializing him so he just likes everyone which is cool besides when I’m not home
I imagine blue smelled him way before he put his hand through the gate. 😊
3/4 matches are him and it’s starting to get a little boring now 🥲
The dog said he’s good people let him in
The little knob tail wagging is adorable
I got the same dog about the same size and a puppy

BODY LANGUAGE!
Blue had a wide stance, tail straight up, hackles raised.
After smelling and acceptance by owner, body language changed.
Don't eat him blue dont eat him 😂 good thing u called him off. Things were about to get bloody
Great work. You’re my boy blue. 😮💨
He’s sooooo funny I need to queen out w him
Blue is 2 gorgeous
Not a fan of someone else telling my dog to sit….am I wrong?
But does he eat out of anyone's hand because that happened to my rottweiler 😢
So a stranger can just command your to sit.??
Is that a good Guarding dog?
Let the dog smell you first, that's the most important thing here.

I'm not in Britain but when I was still living in my home country, I had this happen and confronted the bloke; he stopped like a little beach😂
“Don’t eat him, Blue”
Blue: I heard “eat him”🤤
You could do a special sound that the dog only hears 15 minutes before, or 1 minute before the worker arrives at the gate.
