This is a flirt pole. The basic concept is that you fulfill the dog's need to chase it's prey, while simultaneously providing great exercise and tiring the dog out. It provides much needed play and reenforces bonding. But that's not where it ends.
Impulse training needs to be incorporated into this, it's not just about spinning around in circles with your dog.
Sit, stay, drop, wait, leave it, get it…all these commands need to be heeded before, during, and most importantly AFTER, each session.
What work is done with the pole, will over time transfer to your leashed walk, but it won't happen overnight.
Doesn't that just bring out the prey drive? I try to avoid stuffed toys that look like other animals. Same with tug of war. Teaches them to not release.
