As the kids head back to school, your pup might be wondering where everyone went. Back-to-school season often means changes in routine, and more time alone at home for your furry family member. One way to make the transition easier? Surprise your dog with a few homemade treats! These dog-friendly snack recipes are easy to prepare and packed with ingredients that pups love.

Here are five fun, simple recipes your dog to drool over:

Peanut Butter Banana Bites

Mash 1 ripe banana and mix it with 1/2 cup of unsalted, xylitol-free peanut butter and 1 cup of rolled oats. Scoop into small balls and freeze for 1 to 2 hours.

Frozen Berry Yogurt Drops

Blend 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt with a handful of dog-safe berries, like blueberries or strawberries. Spoon small drops onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid.

Carrot-Apple Crunchies

Grate 1 carrot and 1 apple (minus the seeds) and mix with 1 cup of whole wheat flour and 1 egg. Roll into small balls and bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Let it cool and then give it to your pup as a tasty treat.

Bacon & Cheese Biscuits

Mix 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1 strip of crumbled cooked bacon, and 1 cup of oat flour with a splash of water until it forms a dough. Roll out, cut into shapes, and bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes.

Sweet Potato Chews

Slice a sweet potato lengthwise into thin strips, place on a baking sheet, and bake at 250°F for about 2.5 to 3 hours, flipping halfway through. These chewy, nutrient-rich snacks are a natural favorite.

Quick and Nutritious Treats You Already Have

You don’t always need a recipe to spoil your dog with a healthy snack. Many fruits and vegetables make excellent dog-friendly treats on their own! Brussels sprouts, green beans, cucumber slices, pumpkin, and celery are crunchy, low-calorie options packed with vitamins. Fruits like mango, pineapple, and watermelon (seedless) offer natural sweetness and hydration. Just be sure to wash all produce thoroughly and cut it into bite-sized pieces before giving it to your pup.

Consult With Your Veterinarian

Before introducing new treats to your dog’s diet, it’s always best to consult with your veterinarian, especially if your pup has allergies or dietary restrictions. Keep portions small, and make sure all ingredients are dog-safe (for example, avoid grapes, raisins, onions, and anything with artificial sweeteners like xylitol).

Make the Transition Even Easier with Daycare

While homemade treats are a great way to comfort your pup during the back-to-school transition, nothing beats companionship. Dogtopia daycare gives your dog a fun, safe place to play, exercise, and socialize while the kids are in school. Instead of feeling lonely at home, your pup will spend their day making new friends, burning off energy, learning a few new tricks, and getting all the love and attention they deserve. And you’ll love picking up a tired pup who is ready to chill at home. Ready to add dog daycare to your routine? Find a daycare closest to you!
