These puppies are cute, but it reminds me of my puppy that died 5 days after being born, something was wrong with his mother's milk, so we couldn't let him be breastfed, and that could be the reason he died. I feel kinda sad now

Our German Shepherd just had 9 puppies today. Its her first litter. I have her in a whelping box with some protective pipes around the border of it. But she keeps stepping on them, laying on them, and on even on their own sometimes they wiggle under her and act like they're suffocating. I feel like I need to watch her twenty-four hours a day now and not get any sleep at night! I think would only take a few minutes for suffocation to happen. Ive watched and waited when she is on a puppy to see what happens and she doesn't seem to notice that she is crushing them. I'm not sure what I can do besides staying awake all night, every night and watching all day?
