My SD has been in service for four years. I will never be without one again. I owner trained with the assistance of a professional trainer . He is my first dog.
My biggest issue has been dealing with ignorant employees around public access. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen. Even many police officers are uninformed. My biggest piece of advice is to be ready to be challenged as it can be stressful.
I practice my response and carry cards that explain the law and point the reader to the DOJ’s FAQ section on SDs. That has worked for me every time. It may be that being ready for it helps me stay calm. I try to be empathetic and use it as a teachable moment.
I have an 8-month-old Double Doodle in training to be a service dog for my PTSD and Anxiety. However, my husband is treating her like his pet. I realized this when he said it makes him feel good when he comes home and the dog is excited to see him amd jump on him. This severely saddened me because I can't train her alone if she's getting mixed messages. Especially when I give her commands or ask him to be consistent. He doesn't support me in having a psychiatric dog.
my dog bis a pit bull and right now he is 1 years old and he is not mean to his famliy but like when i take him on a walk he tries to attack and its bad but i only feel safe with him but i need to kow how i train hi8m
Hi! I know i'm going to get hate for this but….I have anxiety and well, i think i have ADHD but My psycologist just ignored it and SAID is nothing, so i don't qualify for a SD I think, but i think i NEED One (i Sh in the past but i still thinking about doing it, i feel so nervious when teenagers look at me in the street, because of trauma just when My dad speaks a bit loud i get SO anxious, i I step off the sidewalk by mistake when the traffic light is still red, i freezed in the midle of a road bc stress, i shake My leg a Lot, i get anxious when i have to talk with people sometimes, etc…) (even because of trauma with basketball in PE— Well, today we had to choose a sport for the school tournament, and with the things the teacher was mentioning, I kept remembering that trauma. I felt like she was saying those things because of me, and I started having flashbacks and stress because I didn’t know what to choose. I began hyperventilating and shaking my leg, and after that, I ended up with a massive headache, like, seriously awful, even like 5 hours later i still having headache-. is not the first time this happens to me, i had similar situations before….)so idk what to do, i don't think i just NEED emocional suport, i should talk to a Psichiatrist but….idk…
Uhh i never get out of bed at all and i do get anxiety attacks, and it kinda effects my life does that even count though..? I dont want to accidentally get a dog that i dong need- not that i wouldn’t want the dog in general:P
Came here to figure out if i need a dog first or not because our psychiatrist agrees that a service dog is needed for D.I.D, Anxiety, PTSD, and depression. We just need to get a form for her to fill out. But the place is closed (due to snow) and can't contact them. So we are trying to research on if we need to dog before or get them after we have the form.
My wife has pancreatic cancer and it has spread to many other organs. It's stage 4 cancer. I've been with my wife for 34 years. I use to have a dog but I worked so much an traveled it wasn't able to have a dog. I've been thinking it would help me after my wife passes, so i don't fall into depression. Any feedback would be appreciated
I don’t have any depression or anxiety. A lot of people say I’m too happy all the time but I just want a dog so bad but I also live in an apartment where I cannot have one, but I see people with dogs all the time so I’m wondering if there’s a way around it
Great. So the only people who can get a trained service dog are rich people. Theres no way i have the bandwidth to rigorously train my own service dog with my already can barely be motivated to take care of myself (debilitating anxiety). So both options are out for me. Awesome. 😒
I want to get my son a service dog he has depression and anxiety bc his dad passed away on his birthday last year but he also has vasovegal syncope that comes along with it and when he gets emotionally elevated he passes out and walks his head on stuff.
Thanks I have anxiety attacks at public stores at first they check getting an emotional support but I realize I can’t take them anywhere public and I usually have them in public
I am gonna get a service dog for my anxiety and depression. My doc either says it’s high functioning anxiety or autism. We both agreed that we think I could benefit from one more than not. I am very dependent and I can’t be alone outside of my house or I’ll have a panic attack or medical episode. I’m looking to get a golden retriever bc their success rate is SUPER high for service dog work
hi! I was wondering… if i have su1c!dal thoughts, and have depression and do s,h, could i get a service dog, i always feel alone and am super afraid to go out in public because of social anxiety… thanks! ❤
Yeah, doesn’t seem very accessible to those with disabilities—especially if they rely on SSDI. I was looking up info for a few disabled people that I thought would benefit from this but they won’t be able to afford it.
i physically cant leave the house because of my anxiety and depression, i think a service dog would benefit me but i cant afford one due to high cost, i would be able to afford their basic needs (like food, equipment, etc) but cant afford the actual service dog, anyone got any tips?
i just googled " is there a cost to have a service dog" A trained service dog can cost from $15,000 to $30,000 or more upfront, in addition to at least $500 a year for food and veterinary care.,,,Most commercial and government health insurance — including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare program — won’t cover the cost of acquiring a service dog.,,,,There are several nonprofit groups that raise money to help people acquire a service dog at little or no cost. However, many of these organizations have yearslong waiting lists.
So was wondering if I qualify. I have an anxiety disorder, a panic disorder and PTSD. When I have panic attacks I get dizzy (making it hard to stand or walk) I get migraines (that affect my vision in my right eye. It either gets blurry or I just completely can’t see out of it) and I can leave my house but when I get into public I can’t go into public places without getting anxious and I have panic attacks. I also am anorexic so I don’t eat a lot but idk if that has anything to do with it. I often pull all nighters bc my anxiety gets to me so I don’t sleep a lot. Idk if I should talk to my doctor but even on my walks if I come across a car I get anxiety (I’ve nearly been hit 3 times). One of the only things that help are dogs, I’ve tried 20+ tips to try to help but nothing works. What should I do?
I have a lady in my building that has a dog that pees in the hallways. Completely untrained. Then turns around and calls it a service dog when we ask her to get it trained.
I'm a frontline respiratory therapist who cared for the 1st Community spread COVID patient in the United States. I suffer from PTSD. Due to our state laws, I'm not categorized as a first responder, therefore do not have access to the financial resources that others receive. I have 3 young kids, and want to be around to see them grow up. Can somebody help me get a service dog please?
I thought about getting a service animal for my PTSD, but I honestly think a personal protection dog would be better suited. I was almost game-overed by someone I know, and that has re-engaged my PTSD to an almost debilitating point. Knowing I have a dog that will defend me would put me more at ease. Unfortunately, my current dogs have proven to be big chicken dogs (though I don't blame them because it was a very scary situation). Knowing what kind of service you need from a dog is important. ESAs, SAs, and PPDs all have a place and purpose. Make sure you talk with your doctors to figure out which is best for you.
Those dogs are not allowed in hospit'll.Or. Or any other place?I know this for a fact Because support dogs are not regular. Dogs for handicap. These dogs have not been trained. Therefore they're not. Qualified to entered hospitals or any other place we had an order them out. I don't like dogs in Walmart. Or hospitals. Because support dolphin, jump out and attack other dogs.A regular service don't let this guy full you Service dogservice dogs are trained. These dogs are half not trained. Most places now and I agree with them. They're not being allowed in hospitals.Or stores
Folks. Get some fresh air, eat healthy, exercise, read, and work on yourselves please. Life is tough, but you are ALL living in the easiest time in human history
Get a "Service Dog" a dog if you "feel" you have to have it to survive, (think how ridiculous that actually is) stay home & let the rest of us enjoy a meal without dog hair

Can you still train your 3-4 year old dog to be a service dog or have him trained?
Does such a service dog react to an outside person that is the source of anxiety?
